The 6 most beautiful seaside resorts on the Costa Blanca South

Looking for the ultimate sun destination for holiday or living? Then the Costa Blanca South is your next stop! This beautiful coastal region in Spain is known for its beautiful white beaches and many nice seaside resorts. Stories go around that the name not only refers to the beautiful coastline, but also to the sea of almond trees that give the area a magical glow with their white blossoms in early spring. Unlike its northern neighbors, where pebble beaches predominate, the southern side of Costa Blanca boasts fine, white sandy beaches that invite endless beach days. Seaside resorts

Alicante

Alicante, also known as Alacant, is a versatile city on Spain's Costa Blanca. It is almost always above 18 degrees here, making Alicante an ideal holiday destination all year round. From various airports in the Netherlands and Belgium you can go directly to Alicante in less than 2.5 hours.

Alicante has a wonderful city beach, atmospheric old streets, beautiful sights and of course good food. You can also easily make a number of day trips from Alicante to beautiful places in the area. Take a look at my tips for things to do in Alicante!

The most striking landmark of Alicante is the Castillo de Santa Bárbara. This 9th-century castle sits atop Monte Benacantil and can be seen from all over the city. You can walk up from the center to visit the castle, but it is also possible to take the elevator or drive there by car for €2.70. From the top you have a fantastic view of the city.

What's so nice about a city trip is that you can combine it with a child-friendly beach holiday ! In Alicante you will find the 900 meter long sandy beach Playa del Postiguet. This beach is beautifully situated at the foot of the Monte Benacantil hill and borders a pleasant boulevard. The beach itself is fully equipped. There are beach beds and parasols, toilets, changing rooms and foot showers. There are also nice playgrounds on the beach for children. It can get quite busy on Playa de Postiguet during the weekend. For example, you can go to the nearby beach of La Albufereta or visit the bays of the Cap de l'Horta peninsula northeast of the center.

Santa Pola

The much smaller town of Santa Pola is close to the metropolis of Alicante. This city is less known to tourists than the other major cities on the Costa Blanca, but has almost the same to offer. The town has some great beaches, a medieval castle in the center, and one of the best promenades on the Costa Blanca.

Besides the fact that Santa Pola is a typical seaside resort with great beaches and bays and is a dream for many water sports enthusiasts, there is much more to do. The many restaurants, terraces, cozy coffee shops, chiringuitos and beach bars make Santa Pola alive for all target groups and all year round. It is not only a summer seaside resort, Santa Pola is also pleasant in winter.

The harbour, the Boulevard, the old center with the castle fortress that is definitely worth a visit. The permanent fair (amusement park), the sea aquarium and Plaza de La Glorieta, the central square of Santa Pola, are also fun to see. A visit to the island of Tabarca should also not be missed when you are in Santa Pola, whether you do this by ferry, sailing boat or motor boat, it is still recommended.

And for walkers it is also a beautiful area with Clot de Galvany where you can walk various routes. In addition, you can take beautiful walks around the salt flats and on the beaches and cliffs and enjoy nature and fauna, with of course the flamingos in the salt flats as a major attraction.

Do you enjoy visiting a market? Then you've come to the right place. You have a Thursday market of Gran Alacant or the Saturday market of Santa Pola. There is also a nice Saturday market in San Fulgencio and the Wednesday market of Guardamar del Segura is also definitely worth a visit. In the welcome folder in the accommodations you will also find an overview of all markets.

La Marina

Looking for some more peace and quiet? Then La Marina is a good choice! Here you will find a lot of peace and quiet and you can relax on the beautiful sandy beaches. It is very popular with lovers of sun, sea and water sports. Whether you want to sail, kayak or windsurf, La Marina offers plenty of possibilities. But there is more than just the beach. The nearby El Hondo Natural Park invites you to explore on foot or by bike, past a diversity of flora and fauna. And golfers? They can indulge themselves on the various golf courses in the area, where you can play a round of golf in a relaxed atmosphere.

Guardamar del Segura

Just a stone's throw from La Marina is Guardamar del Segura, affectionately called Guardamar by locals. This 'white pearl' of the Costa Blanca charms with 11 kilometers of natural sandy beaches, surrounded by an extensive dune landscape and lush parks. The quiet village life, which exudes a serene atmosphere outside the summer months, is enriched all year round with open restaurants, bars and shops. The weekly market on Wednesdays is a magnet for both locals and visitors from the area, who come for fresh food, flowers, clothing and more.

Guardamar del Segura is also home to a lively marina offering year-round activities such as sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there is an extensive sports center and several fitness centers, dance and yoga schools. The cultural center, the music school and the library with free Wi-Fi enrich the cultural life of the city. A special mention deserves the Reina Sofia Park, a beautifully maintained green oasis with a diversity of animals and a fantastic playground for children.

Torrevieja

Torrevieja, once a modest fishing village, has developed into a lively city where the sea and salt extraction are central. The town is home to one of the largest marinas on the Spanish coast and treats visitors to fresh seafood in numerous restaurants. But Torrevieja is also known for its salt mining, a tradition that stretches back hundreds of years, culminating in the striking Laguna Rosa. A natural wonder on the west side of the city, this pink lake is a must-see for its unique color and associated salt extraction that gives the landscape an otherworldly look. The accompanying museum offers a dive into the history of this place.

Another historical highlight is the Torre del Moro, a 14th century watchtower built on the highest point of the city to ward off pirates. The view from this tower over Torrevieja and its surroundings is breathtaking. Although Torrevieja is not known for its sandy beaches, the few that exist offer high quality and tranquility for beach lovers. You will also find many luxurious all-in resorts in Torrevieja, so the city also relies largely on tourism! But if you want a lovely apartment with a sea view , we are also happy to help you.

Pilar de la Horadada

Pilar de la Horadada is located on the extreme southern border of Alicante, and borders Murcia. This is a lesser known seaside resort. This pleasant town is connected to the beaches of Las Higuercias and Las Villa by the scenic walking path 'Del Pilar al Mar', with the architecturally award-winning Puente del Beso as a literal highlight. Pilar de la Horadada blends traditional Spanish living with modern amenities, making it an attractive destination for those who want to experience authentic Spain without sacrificing comfort.

With a growing population of more than 20,000 inhabitants, Pilar offers all necessary amenities, from shops and markets to sports facilities, and is establishing itself as a cycle-friendly municipality with a network of cycle paths connecting the heart of Pilar to the coast and nearby villages. With almost 5 kilometers of sandy beaches, it is not surprising that Pilar de la Horadada is increasingly coming into the spotlight as a popular holiday destination.
