Each country has different rules regarding the validity period of a passport or ID card. But what exactly does this mean in Spain?
If you have an ID card and are planning to travel to Spain, make sure you always carry your ID. Spain is part of the Schengen Area and the EU, meaning you can only travel through these areas with an ID. If you applied for your ID when you were over 18, it is valid for a maximum of 10 years. Please ensure it is no older than 10 years when you are in Spain. If you are under 18 , please note that your ID is valid for a maximum of 5 years . The ID must be valid in Spain at all times.
In Spain, you can also identify yourself with a passport . Please note that certain rules apply to passports. If you applied for your passport when you were over 18, it is valid for a maximum of 10 years. If your passport is older than 10 years, it is no longer valid. If you are under 18 and have a passport, it is valid for a maximum of 5 years. Keep in mind that even if the passport is still within the maximum validity period, it must still be valid for at least 3 months on the date of return.
If you want to travel to Spain with your ID or passport, please note the following requirements.
If you discover your ID or passport has expired just before your vacation, don't panic. In most cases, you can submit an expedited application to your municipality. Please note that this may incur additional costs. Check with your municipality for the exact procedure and application process; don't assume you'll receive a new ID or passport right away.
If you lose your passport or ID during your stay, or if it is stolen, report it immediately to the local police and request a copy of the report. Then contact the Dutch embassy or consulate in Spain ; they can help you obtain emergency travel documents to make your return trip home.
If you want to go to Spain for a longer period, for example because you have a second home or want to spend the winter, you do not need a visa, provided you are not in Spain for more than 183 days per calendar year.
