The Costa del Sol is a region in the south of the Spanish peninsula, in the Community of Andalusia, between Gibraltar and Almería. It is located in the provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, and Granada. The Costa del Sol lies between two lesser-known coastal areas, the Costa de la Luz and the Costa Tropical in Andalusia, between Gibraltar and Almería. The area is sometimes called the Florida of Europe. The Costa del Sol offers kilometers of beaches and also boasts beautiful, smaller bays.
The most popular beaches are
- Maro-Cerro Gordo Acantilados. A natural border runs from Torre de Maro in Nerja to the Cazaida creek in Almuñércar (Granada).
- El Cristo. East of Nerja, near the village of Maro, this is Estepona's Blue Flag beach and is very conveniently located.
- Puerto Banús. Located directly east of the prestigious Puerto Banús marina, this beach faces west, making it very sunny and sheltered from the wind. It's all about seeing and being seen.
- Cabo de Gata. This stretch of Spanish coast has not yet been discovered by mass tourism.
- Cabopino. In a small bay about 12 kilometers east of Marbella, you'll find Cabopino beach with beautiful white sand.
- La Carihuela. This beautiful beach is located south of Torremolinos next to a promenade with many restaurants and chiringuitos. The Costa del Sol also has several beautiful nudist beaches.

From the Costa del Sol, you can visit the beautiful region of Andalusia, but a trip to Morocco or the stunning inland areas is also highly recommended. From Gibraltar, you'll see the southernmost point of Europe. From the highest point of El Pan de Azucar rock, you'll have breathtaking views of Africa and three different bodies of water: the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. Although Granada, Seville, Cordoba, and Malaga aren't all close to the Costa del Sol, tour operators often offer trips to these famous cities. In Granada, the Alhambra is a must-see, while in Seville, the cathedral and Columbus's tomb are worth a visit. In Cordoba, you can visit La Mezquita, a unique mosque that housed a cathedral in the 16th century. In Malaga, you can stroll through the old town and visit various monuments, including the cathedral.
Ronda, an ancient Roman city with several beautiful and interesting monuments.
Morocco - If you're planning to visit two continents during your stay, a boat trip is definitely recommended. Via the Strait of Gibaltar, you can reach the Moroccan coast in an hour and a half. Want to discover the real Spain/Andalusia? Then be sure to visit the beautiful white villages of Andalusia, and an absolute must-try is a traditional Spanish meal, such as a delicious paella or some delicious tapas.
