This Saturday (August 13) it's that time again, thé fireworks festival of the Costa Blanca is being held again in the city of Elche. Every year tens of thousands of people come to the city to set off fireworks themselves and to enjoy an extraordinary spectacle from about 11:15 pm.
Just before the violence erupts, almost all streetlights and the lighting in public buildings are turned off, in order to make the city as dark as possible. At 11.15 pm the fireworks show starts, which is set off from 6 bridges that are spread over the city. For 45 minutes it is an unprecedented experience, with dozens of avalanche flares that go off every second, interspersed with gigantic shells and decorative fireworks.
Towards the end of the show, around 00:00, singing is heard from the Church of Elche, where a few minutes later thousands of rockets are fired at the same time, illuminating the entire city.
If you are staying in Spain this weekend, this is an absolute must-see!
