Readers will already be aware that on April 20, 2022, the obligation to face masks in indoor areas in Spain will come to an end. On Wednesday morning, the Government Gazette BOE-A-2022-6449 published with the text stating where the mask does and does not have to be worn from April 20. To avoid confusion, a short overview of what you should take into account in Spain.
After 700 days, the mandatory wearing of a mouth cap has come to an end in the interior spaces. On February 10, 2022, the mask obligation in outdoor areas already came to an end and on April 20, 2022 the end of the mask obligation was completed with the end of the obligation to wear a 'mascarilla' in the indoor areas. But that is not yet the case everywhere and for everyone. Therefore an overview as stated in the BOE and as the Spanish press writes about it.
Obligated
Like the BOE reports, wearing a face mask is still mandatory in the following situations and locations:
'Centros sociosanitarios': these include pharmacies, physiotherapists, dentists, centers for the elderly, retirement homes, etc. Employees and visitors must wear face masks in public areas. Residents in retirement homes are not required to wear a face mask.
'Medios de transporte público': these include the train, metro, tram, bus, transfer bus, taxi, boat, cruise and airplane. You no longer have to wear a face mask at the stations and in the airport, but it is still recommended to do so.
With regard to the workplace , the mouth cap is generally no longer mandatory. But the individuals or departments of companies dealing with business risks can still require or require masks to be worn if it is to protect the safety of workers.
No longer required
- Catering facilities such as bars, restaurants, discotheques, etc.
- Hotels (bar, restaurant, lounge), apartment complexes etc.
- Shops, shopping malls, supermarkets etc.
- Schools, no longer mandatory for students but recommended for teachers, teachers and other employees of schools.
- Cinemas, theatres, concerts, gyms, football stadiums etc.
- Offices and the workplace. Only mandatory if a company so demands.
