Are you planning a holiday to Spain soon? Then enjoy the anticipation. You can look forward to a warm climate, idyllic coastlines, some of Europe's liveliest cities and best festivals. This combination makes Spain a dream destination.
However, there are always a number of factors to consider when you really want to immerse yourself in Spanish culture. Only in this way can you experience the very best that this beautiful country has to offer. With the following handy tips this will be all right!
Get carried away in the tapas culture
Spain is (among other things) known for its great tapas. Varied, small snacks that you can snack on together. However, many visitors do not have a clear picture of how the tapas culture works. While there are countless restaurants all over the country offering tapas, the tapas selection in the smaller local bars is usually fixed. The tapas are chilled on the bar and you can also choose from there. The selection can vary greatly by region.
In some parts of Spain you get free tapas when you order a drink. This can vary from a small montadito (sandwich with some fillings) or some olives, to a decent portion of food. If you're not a fussy eater, you can easily 'eat out' in different regions, without really ordering a lot. This can be an effective money-saving strategy for budget travelers! Go on holiday as cheaply as possible. If you are going to search yourself, look at different companies. Sometimes it saves a lot of money if one goes with one and the other back or just a day earlier or later. Sometimes it can save hundreds of euros.
Go island hopping
You don't necessarily have to go to Greece for a real 'island hop holiday'. This is also possible in Spain! For example, between the beautiful islands of the Balearic Islands. These are popular for their delectable gastronomy, exotic beaches, hippie vibes and laid-back lifestyle. There are different experiences, cultural attractions. The islands offer something for everyone: whether you want to party, hike, or just sit back and enjoy the tranquility.
For example, combine party island Ibiza, family islands Menorca and Formentera and paradise Mallorca during your trip. Each island will amaze you with its own attractions.
Experience a real Spanish festival
There is no shortage of parties to choose from on a holiday in Spain, with some of the world's most famous festivals taking place there every year. The Valencia region has two of the biggest, with the spectacular 'Falas celebrations ' in the town of the same name, and the chaotic ' La Tomatina ' festival taking place in the town of Buñol in August. Meanwhile, Spain's most famous festival is San Fermín. This is where bull runs take place in the streets of Pamplona every summer.
Easter is also celebrated in a big way in some cities, especially in Andalusia. Large Easter parades are held in the city of Seville. A few weeks later, the Feria de Abril also takes place there; one of the biggest festivals in Spain. For a week, the city turns into a party-loving paradise with dancing and singing Sevillanos and long tables at which to eat and drink. Great to experience!
Try not to see too much of Spain at once
Many travelers want to see a new city every day 'while they are in Spain'. But they are not always aware of the distances between the popular cities. If you really want to get to know Spain and its amazing culture, it's best to stay somewhere for at least two, preferably three nights. That way you can really discover a destination and let it sink in. Do not hesitate to take the time to sit on a terrace, eat tapas and drink a glass of wine with the locals. Don't rush it, that would be a shame and ruin the experience.
Our motto is: 'Go with the flow' and be surprised!
