HIGHLIGHTS VUELTA HOLLANDA

The Spanish Vuelta cycling tour will come to the Netherlands at the end of August. On August 19 there will be cycling in Utrecht, on August 20 the peloton will be in Den Bosch and the 3rd stage will again go through the Brabant country on August 21 from Den Bosch. On August 23, the Vuelta will continue in the Basque Country and the finish will be in Madrid on September 11. Below you can see the stage schedule. The Dutch prelude to the Tour of Spain is accompanied by a huge number of festivities in the three cities. You can't imagine whether it was invented: Spanish courses for cyclists, special Vuelta wine, photo bike tours along historic places, a hexathlon in a Spanish atmosphere and bicycle fall prevention for the elderly. Many activities have already started. We made a selection of the best activities in June.

1. Paintings from the Prado in Breda

From 1 June you can view the outdoor exhibition Prado in Breda in Breda . Stedelijk Museum Breda tells the Spanish story of Breda on panels on the fences of Park Valkenberg. Together with the Prado Museum in Madrid, they made a selection from their world-famous collection of paintings. Prado in Breda shows that the relationship between Spain and Breda goes back a long way and how the Eighty Years' War started. On the border of north and south, Breda becomes a plaything in the battle. After the ruse with the peat ship, the city comes into Spanish hands one more time. That victory was immortalized by Diego Velázquez in the painting that almost every Spaniard and resident of Breda knows as Las Lanzas. Here you can read more about the exhibition in Breda.

2. Taste sustainable Spain

The Spanish Tourist Board in the Netherlands organizes the Spanish La Vuelta Weeks – Taste sustainable Spain in June and July. The approach is that Spain is an ideal destination to combine cycling with gastronomy. From 7 June to 10 July, five different Spanish destinations will be presented in De Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht: Aragón, Andalusia, Valencia City, Mallorca and Navarra. It features special menus prepared by renowned Spanish chefs.

3 Lectures by Spanish artists

The Stedelijk Museum Breda and Artists-in-residence Witte Rook are organizing a special cultural program in Utrecht, Den Bosch and Breda in June. Artists and curators from the Netherlands and Spain come to talk about their work and experience as migrant and artist.

4 The rise of the city bike in Spain

The bicycle is on the rise in Spain. More and more cities are getting an extensive network of bicycle paths. Photographer José Miguel Llano Hernáiz made the photo series Ciclistas Urbanos. Some of his photos can be seen until August 26 at the Instituto Cervantes in Utrecht. The photos shown were taken in cities such as Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, Gijón, Vitoria, San Sebastián and Bilbao.
