The main N-301 road also passes through the town, making Molina an important transport hub and subsequently attracting important industries to the area. In terms of urban, economic and population growth, Molina has grown remarkably since 1960. With a population of 57,000 it is the fourth largest town in the region, the district of Molina itself presents a varied picture, the northern part is mainly rugged highland with the Sierras of Lugar, La Espada and La Pila, while the southern part is mainly flatter as one approaches the banks of the Segura, which, despite its relatively modest size, is still the main watercourse of the region.
