Near the city of Cartagena, about 30 kilometers away, we find the beautiful Bateria de Castillitos. This fort was built between 1933 and 1936 and was used as a defensive position for the Mediterranean Sea. The fort has several buildings spread over several hundred meters. Unlike monuments in the Netherlands, everything is accessible and can also be visited for free.
Enjoy the beautiful views, explore the interior of the fort and you can even enter the rooms where the cartridges were loaded into the gigantic cannons. In addition, there are old stables where the donkeys were kept and many other areas to discover.
The fort is located at an altitude of 250 meters and there is parking 200 meters away from the fort. This is definitely worth a visit!
